At Royston School we are transitioning toward a Reggio-influenced teaching and learning approach towards education. The Reggio approach encourages students and teachers to explore, to question, and to discover. Students will have the opportunity to express their interests, and ideas, research and reflect on experiences and form conclusions.
Key Components of Reggio
Project work or Inquiry work- is a fundamental component of Reggio pracitice. In depth studies that develop out of children's ideas and interests.
Emergent Curriculum-Stems from the natural curiosity of children
Representational Development- The arts are a large part in Reggio, where children regularly spend time in art dance drama and music.
Role of the Environment-Careful consideration of the look of the classroom, indoors and outdoors. The outdoor environment is explored in every season.
Documentation-Teachers scribe children's conversation about what they wonder, and what they are learning. Photos, videos and recordings of the children's work are an integral part of assessment and documentation
Parent Involvement-Parents are respected by teachers and seen as partners in education.
